He The Cumberland Trail Genealogical Society (CTGS) formed a committee well over a year ago, to locate, document and preserve the information on all the cemeteries in Belmont County. The committee, to date, has found and cataloged over 225 cemeteries in the county and the project has proven to be quite challenging. Working from history books, existing cemetery lists, old newspaper articles, conversations with farmers and hunters and other leads; the committee members have scoured the hills, hollows and woods in remote areas of the county to try and locate long abandoned burial sites. Some have proven to be quite elusive and some of our cemeteries have been lost forever, either through vandalism, strip mining, logging or just plain wearing away of the stones. Many cemeteries have no stones remaining at all and others hardly any that are legible. Some have been covered by gob piles or had the stones knocked over and covered up or worse, carried off as souvenirs.
We are actually quite fortunate to locate a family plot such as the Lucas Family Cemetery. The stones date from the first part of the 1800’s and several are still readable. The cemetery is in a remote section of a sparsely populated township and surrounded by thick brush and brambles so this has probably helped to preserve it. The farm that is lies on has not been worked for many years and no one lives on the property. The stones that are still readable were transcribed by Frank Hodorowski, of this site, and are listed below.

"Did you ever hear the story about Katie Dilley and how she came to be a weaver at Spring Mill? Back in the early 40's, she went to Mayo clinic and they told her that her blood pressure was so high she would probably go blind....they also told her not to fly home....which of course she did. She and a friend went to Berea, Kentucky, to a little college there where weaving was taught...along with many other handcrafts. She put on a blindfold and learned to weave, and take a loom apart and put it back together...no mean feat, for a sighted person. She never did go blind, as you know. She enjoyed her work down at Spring Mill, and did it for many years. She was a very early "women's libber"!" - Mary Louise Sears Merrell, granddaughter of Katherine Lucas Dilley)
